HELLO... My name is Sefu (pronounced: 'SEH foo').
I must confess… I’ve developed an insatiable appetite for growth and contribution. I’m fascinated with both the art + science of player development. And, my life's commitment is to continually seek out ways to make my teaching world-class.
It All Started With A Love Affair 25+ Years Ago
That's how long I've been desperately in love with her: Basketball.
I've played, studied and learned from many. I've also had a great run working in the front offices of three (3) professional sports organizations — the Toronto Raptors Basketball Club (NBA), Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL), Detroit Shock (WNBA) — and with Canada Basketball (FIBA). I now work for the NBA in Asia. And, along the way, I've been gaining tons of valuable experience.
I coach, read, observe a lot and talk player development with a lot of solid minds. Their knowledge, when meshed with my own experiences, has given me a different viewpoint on basketball and excellence on and off the basketball court.
I travel a lot—and love it!
Home, for me, is Toronto (Canada), but I've been living in the Cayman Islands the last 5-years and am now calling Asia home.
No, I haven’t swashbuckled with pirates, nor have I climbed Kilimanjaro. But I have travelled to many far away places, mostly in the name of basketball, giving me a unique global perspective. And I’ve made it my life’s goal to be as creative and resourceful as possible towards everything I do. [Outside of my morning oatmeal, that is!]
I am a teacher-coach. Those two words are mutually inclusive as far as I’m concerned.
I’m results-driven, yet putting a round ball through a hoop is only one aspect of what I do (well). I believe deeply in character development, fostering life skills and the pursuit of excellence on and off the court.
I’ve been told my business acumen and leadership experience complement all the basketball stuff very well. (I think so too.)
Let’s work together to change the trajectory of some people’s lives. (If we can climb Kilimanjaro along the way, even better!).
